How To Build Your Own 9mm AR Pistol From Scratch

For the person looking for a starter pistol, or an upgrade from an old kit that is on the rack, the new 9mm AR pistol kit from PSE is an excellent choice. It is fully functional with a threaded steel barrel and stainless steel pins. The kit also comes with an aluminum magazine well, as well as an instructional manual. A really nice feature is the pistol lock and key assembly.

This kit isn't a real pistol, though. It contains an upper receiver assembly, bolt carrier set, lower components kit, buffer assembly with pistol suppressor, and lastly a jig to manufacture a threaded lower receiver, sold separately. Pair this gun kit with a 9mm AR9 lower receiver and spring loaded pistol suppressor, purchased separately, to fabricate an effective carrier set for your subsonic pistol.

Newbie builder? Here's a tip: Instead of building the entire receiver from scratch (you'll have to disassemble the whole thing), use your new 9mm ar pistol kit as a base and add the appropriate patches. To do this, simply cut out the material you want in the desired pattern and then drill the corresponding holes to provide mounting points for the patches.

Want a really simple, basic pistol, such as the original Heckler & Koch model 40 with its folding stock? Or perhaps you prefer an older model such as a Remington Model 7 with its buttstock recessed into the butt. You can easily convert this with the right 9mm ar pistol kit. Simply replace the existing buttstock with a one of similar design and size, drill a few holes on the underside of the receiver and attach the new buttstock.

To add a bit of character to your pistol, you may want to add a silencer. This is easy to do as well. Just purchase a suppressor with a Twist Rate of one to three (the higher the Twist Rate the quieter the gun will be). Install the suppressor and turn on the silencer to see how much it rips through the air. Adjust the twist rate accordingly; the lower the Twist Rate the longer the bullet will go through the barrel; the higher the Twist Rate the faster the bullet will travel through the barrel (for faster shooting speeds).

Last but not least, install a buffer protector. These are sold separately and are easy to install on your own. Simply install the buffer to the muzzle end of your pistol's bolt and then install the silencer insert if you're using one. Repeat these steps for the other components including the bolt and the magazine. After installing everything back together you should have a fully functional 9mm pistol in your hands. Enjoy!
